Preventive Care for a Fresher Looking Smile: Part Two

AmyUncategorized

Everyone wants to maintain a beautiful smile, but a great looking smile is nothing if it’s not healthy. To keep your smile in great shape you should attend regular professional checkups and cleanings, but those aren’t the only way to care for your smile. There are plenty of things you can do at home to help keep your teeth shining and healthy! If you care about your smile, learn about the best ways to keep it looking its very best.

Stop snacking all day.

When you eat frequently between brushings, your teeth spend more time with food particles on them, increasing the likelihood of staining but also acid erosion. Try to limit between meals snacking, and if you must have one, opt for something healthy. Fresh vegetables make excellent choices if you are going to snack, because not only are they filling, low in calories, and nutritious, but they also cause less acidity or wear to your teeth.

Reverse and reduce staining.

If your teeth are looking less than pearly-white you may require cosmetic treatment to remove staining. Once your teeth have been lightened, however, preventive care is the best way to keep your smile looking bright. Avoid staining beverages which spend lots of time on teeth, and if you are going to enjoy a cup of coffee or soda, follow it up with water to help wash the staining beverage from your teeth until you can brush.

Combat inflammation.

One of the worst problems for your oral health, particularly as you age, is inflammation. Bleeding gums are one warning sign that you’re suffering from chronic inflammation. This can be dangerous for your overall health, as well as your smile.

Regular brushing and flossing can help prevent inflammation, but certain foods are also known to fight inflammation. Try to fill your plate with kale, tomatoes, blueberries and beets, as well as spices like turmeric, ginger and cinnamon, plus garlic, which are all great for fighting inflammation.
